Tim McBain and L.T. Vargus – Fade to Black

Fade to BlackThis is a cliffhanger, the first book in the Awake in the Dark series.

A very interesting read. I am typically a romance reader but leave my comfort zone frequently to read ‘some strange’. A little romance innuendo for you.

I enjoyed following Jeff on his journey to discover what is causing his seizures. Jeff is a self-inflicted loner. Once having been part the real world but even then it was only for a fleeting second. He gets dragged into a friendship by necessity with Glen. A man he meets under odd even slightly unusual circumstances.

Towards the end of the book it begins taking a paranormal turn. Up until then it was all speculations and possibilities of impossible things. Leaving me intrigued as to the direction the authors are going to take. I only wish I had got a little more before I was left wondering what happens. This book ends in a cliffhanger. No satisfactory ending or even a partial one here. We are left with more questions than answers.

I have discovered that unlike convention says, cliffhangers are not better. Maybe on a chapter end basis but on a story level as a reader I like a sense of closure when I finish a book. I prefer stories that solve at least a minor conflict. I understand the logic behind them. I just feel betrayed by the writer and sometimes don’t read the next book/s.
