#NaNoWriMo Week 1

Who’s started NaNo?

(Not me!)

I’m sitting out this go round. I’ll name several excuses that are just that excuses but I’m planning on being ready for Camp Nano in April and June.

Excuse Number One

I started a new part-time job over the summer that added twice as many day job work hours to my yearly schedule.

Excuse Number Two

My new part-time job turned into a full-time job about a month and a half in; almost doubling my daily hours.

Excuse Three

I’m in mid-edit of a book I wanted to publish in October but because of Excuse One and Two I missed my self-inflicted deadline.

I’m pushing myself to get this book knocked out and then I’ll push myself to finish writing my draft of the next one. Why I thought it was a good idea to write two series at once is a mystery.

But ultimately isn’t that the point of NaNo? To push ourselves to do what we didn’t think we could? So, maybe I’m doing more NaNo then I thought. I’m channeling it’s get it done spirit despite the odds.

I’d love to hear how writing is going for you. NaNo related or not.

#NaNoWriMo2016 Crushed

The stars aligned and the writing gods got on the same page the last few days of NaNo and I finished.

No. #NaNoWriMo2016 got crushed.

It literally was about all I did for the last three days but I reached 50,000 words in the finished file. Some of it will be cut, probably the whole Epilogue. But that will all come later.

Remember any words written is a win.

Personally NaNo is like my New Years, I say I’m going to start writing every day once January hits and I get through Christmas then it falls to writing every other day. Finally I convince myself two days a week is fine. Life happens and so do my other jobs but come April and June I’m not letting myself of the hook. Finishing three manuscripts a year for me is a great goal. I would like to be publishing three a year. There’s always next year.

NANOWRIMO Synopsis Share

We’re a few days into NaNo and I thought I would do a post where we can share a bit about our latest work in progress.

Share your short synopsis with us in the comments.

Share your progress.

Share your goals for the up coming week.

NANOWRIMO Synopsis time!

NaNoWriMo Day 2 2016

I did a bit better on day two. I got up to 3,360 words.

I haven’t had any time to write yet today. I’ll tackle that as soon as I’m done with this post. And while I’m at swim lessons with my little fish.

Are you were you want to be?

How did NaNoWriMo Day 2 2016 go for you?

NaNoWriMo Day 1 2016

I got a few minutes this morning to write. I got 37 words on the page.

How was your NaNoWriMo Day 1 2016?

Oh and some edits to Vested in Her.

NANOWRIMO Eve

If you’re doing NaNo I’m sure you have some plan wether it be detailed or notes scratched on a napkin. I wish you luck. Remember any words written is an accomplishment.

I’m still undecided if I’m embarking on the NaNo journey this year. I have to work 7 1/2 hours tomorrow morning so I may not get a start till day two even if I do decide to participate. I get most of my writing done in the mornings when I have the house to myself.

I have two works in progress that are begging me to finish them and a final edit on Out of the Blue calling my name.

I do have another idea swimming around in my head that would like to be written down but I’m not sure it’s more than a short story.

NANOWRIMO Eve has me scratching my head.

Are you all set? Are you a napkin scribbler like me or a full on planner?

#TeaserTues – Her Unexpected Life, Excerpt Take 6

This major tense rewrite is complete.

Her Unexpected Life

I was almost ready to publish this for pre-order and then I decided to rewrite it. I had went out on a limb and wrote it in present tense. After much thought and advice  I decided to change it.

This version needs to run through my editor. So typos may be present.

Chapter One-End of January

Valerie Cooper’s cell phone jingled to life in the middle of the pop aisle at her local Hugemart. Swiping her finger across the screen, she read the text from her husband. I’m moving out.

Ha! Auto-correct, the technological version of that telephone game the kids play. Valerie’s thumbs wrestled with the touch screen of her phone to send her reply. I think auto-correct got you. Lol! She tossed her phone back in her purse and moved on to the next aisle where she was greeted by the scent of roses. Umm. I love the scent of roses.

Moments later, a few cheerful jingles announced his response. No. It didn’t. I’m moving out of the house, and in with Wendy.

The corners of Valerie’s eyes crinkled and she pursed her lips as she waited for the punch line in this bizarre joke of her husband’s. Curtis, as far as jokes go, this one sucks, babe. She didn’t throw her phone back in her purse this time. Instead, she stood fixed in the aisle, almost rooted to the spot while waiting on his retort. The humor of his joke must have been over her head. Continue reading

Round Five? Edits are complete

her-unexpected-lifeI’m so close to publishing this.

I decided to not dwell on the name I’m publishing under and to focus on just getting it ready. I sent it back to my editor and got it in .mobi form to send to my betas readers. It looks so good on my kindle app.

I wanted to share the most up to date version of this with you on Tuesday but it’s my youngest’s week to drag mom around town without her sister. So, I was being held hostage at a fast food play place with no laptop because mommy is always working on that thing. I’m sharing now and will back date it for Tuesday. I love the back dating option.

July Camp Nano Update 3

Still ahead of schedule

I’m super proud of myself. I’m staying ahead and should have this first draft finished before the end of the month. That works out well because I’m having family come in and I probably should clean house before they get here.

I got to write a bit over the weekend but that means that my hubby had to work the weekend. He ended up not having to go in at midnight like we thought but we didn’t do anything because of it.

Camp Nano Progress

I’ve included a run down of my progress below. The story is taking on a mind of it’s own. I had some basic thoughts of what was going to happen but unexpected events are popping up. I sit down with where I’m taking the characters next and they straight up let me know that’s not where their going. I cave and follow orders, typing what then tell me to.

My main characters are Haven and Riker and I shared a bit of their first chapter before. Riker wasn’t on the scene yet but he’s hot, of course.

How is Camp going for you?

Are your characters shoving you out of the drivers seat, too?

My daily achievements.

Day 11 – 18, 621 recorded 18,467

Day 12 – 21,046 recorded 20,000

Day 13 – 22,097 recorded 22,000

Day 14 – 23, 069

Day 15 – 24,103

Day 16 – 26,252

July Camp Nano Update 2

Ahead of schedule

I’m ahead of schedule. I find it funny that when I do Camp Nano I get ahead but when I set the same goal for myself in the off months I get behind. Baffling.

Camp Nano Progress

Below is a run down of my progress. The first number is my actual words written. The second is the number I recorded on the Camp Nano website. Sometimes I only get on there once a day.

How’s writing going for you?

My daily achievements.

Day 3 – 9334 recorded 7,000

Day 4 – 10,014 recorded 10,000

Day 5 – 11,035 recorded 11,000

Day 6 – 12,124 recorded 12,000

Day 7 – 13,749 recorded 13,000

Day 8 – 16,364 recorded 16,000

Day 9 – 17, 491 recorded 17,491

Day 10 – 0 recorded 17,491

July Camp NANO

Just wanted to give you a quick update on my progress so far with Camp NANO.

On July first I finished the day with 3,070. I didn’t bother to refresh my camp total on the site though so it set at 2,000 for the day.

July 2nd I got up to 6,839 words. I may have updated around 5,000 and just left it like that on the site.

I’ll start today’s typing session off here in a minute when I finish this post.

Are any of you doing Camp?

I’m really enjoying writing a new story and seeing how the characters unfold as I go. People and situations are already popping up that I hadn’t thought of including. I have a working title but I’m not sure I’m going to stick with it. It’s Vested in Her.

What does that title tell you about my story?

Camp Nano Closes Soon

The end is in site

How did you do? Any words gained is a triumph. Be proud!

I’m sharing some of your Camp Nano posts the next few days. I hope to work on my edits  today. Wish me luck.

Are you going to do it again in the summer?

#CampNaNo Day Twelve

Well I changed my goal.

I changed it to 74,000.  I made it to 74,479 which is 99% of my original 75,000 goal.  I got 359 words today.  I was 522 words shy but couldn’t find a place I want to add those words.  There’s one potential but I may remove that part.  It’s currently just three sentences and could be a lot more.  But I may remove it completely.

I’m 100% done with my editing goal so I’m done with this project. I won’t touch it for a month now so I can look at it with fresh eyes.
