Courtney and Marissa Bellamy – In The Best Interest of the Child – Character Profile

Felicia Denise, Author

As best friends to Duncan Averest and his late wife, Irene, Courtney and Marissa Bellamy knew they would stand by Duncan. Whatever it took to help him through the loss of his wife and the serious injuries sustained by him and daughter, Rena, the Bellamys would do. And, as Rena’s godparents, of course she would live with them until her father was well enough to take care of her. They took their vows as godparents very seriously. But someone is trying to stop them. Someone is trying to keep them away from Duncan and make sure Rena gets sent into the foster care system.

Court-appointed child advocate attorney Olivia Chandler is the answer to their prayers. They’re moved by her genuineness and promise to “do right by Rena.” There is an immediate bond between the attorney and her young client, and Marissa cannot help but wonder if it has more…

Bruce Bellamy – In The Best Interest of the Child – Character Profile

Felicia Denise, Author

A former amateur race car driver, and current owner of a successful chain of auto repair shops, Bruce Bellamy is a cousin to Rena Averest’s current caregivers. He and Olivia meet for the first time when she gives Rena a ride home from physical therapy, and he is there trying to diagnose the problem with his cousin’s car.

Bruce is instantly smitten with the attorney. Her voluptuous body pulls him right in, but it’s the guarded sadness in her eyes that propels him to get to know her. She has a beautiful smile, and he thinks she should use it more often.

The easy going business owner has been alone for nearly two decades, when his ex-wife walked away from him and their four children in search of a more affluent lifestyle. Her callous, mercenary heart caused him to close his off, and he’s not been in a relationship since…

Excerpt: Search For Maylee #coldcase

Didi Oviatt

Their eyes locked and for one brief moment they were the only two people in the world. Josie, Craig, Jeremy, and even Maylee faded into mere background.  The sharp gray shards of color in his eyes pierced through her, and she drank in their naked vulnerability. There was a sense of surrender in the upward pull of his brows. It was a look she was yet to see plastered on his handsome face, a look that melted her insides.

As she welcomed him in, the sexy familiar scent of him threatened to consume her. It smelled like spruce bark and ocean, and it followed him into her apartment, her heart, her future. They had opened up to each other in a way that there was no turning back from. Even if it had only been by phone. No matter what he had to say, there was sure to be a…

Get a Free Novel when you Sign Up!

I have a new novel coming out soon, so I’ve decided it’s time to do a push to get people to sign up for my mailing list. I thought it might make sense to offer a free copy of my first novel as a way to entice people to sign up (and if they love it, they can buy the sequel and the sequel to the sequel).

But there’s a catch!

All three books are in KDP Select, so that Kindle Unlimited users can read them for free. Amazon has a rule that you cannot distribute books anywhere else if you want to be in that program. And that includes giving them away like this. So what I’ll do is if you sign up now, I’ll buy the book from Amazon and give it to you as a gift. I get my royalty on that, so it costs…

Why I don’t use Beta Readers #WriterWednesday #AmWriting

D.E. Haggerty

As many of you know, I’ve just finished the draft of my latest novel (insert shameless plug for new novel here). Now that the manuscript is off to the editor, it should be time to send the ARC to beta readers. Notice me rushing off to do that? No? That’s because I no longer use beta readers. Oh, the shame! Who the hell do I think I am not using beta readers?!?

I could go into a long background story of all the mistakes I’ve made with beta readers and even the heartbreaking story of losing a good friend over it all, but I’m just going to get to the heart of the matter.

Beta Reader _1

Reasons I don’t use Beta Readers:

Timing. In order to plan my book marketing properly, there is a two-month gap between the time I finish the novel and it goes to the editor…

“In the Best Interest of the Child” #WriterWednesday

Felicia Denise, Author

Best Interest_Full_RevisedIn this short excerpt from In the Best Interest of the Child, Olivia Chandler is meeting Bruce Bellamy for lunch. There is a definite attraction between the two, but both are holding back – though Bruce…not as much! Enjoy!

Having arrived fifteen minutes early, Olivia took a few minutes to visit the ladies’ room to check her hair and makeup, and wash her hands. She was glad no one else was around because every time she glanced at her reflection in the mirror, she couldn’t stop herself from grinning.

“Get a hold of yourself, Olivia Louise! It’s just lunch with a man. You’ve done this more times than you can count.”

Exhaling slowly, Olivia hung her head. Yes, lunch with a man who seems to like me. Lunch with a man I actually like even though I just met him.

Olivia groaned and leaned against the sink. She should…

Self-editing 101 – a primer #WriterWednesday #AmWriting #AmEditing

D.E. Haggerty

There is absolutely no doubt writers need to self-edit a manuscript before sending it on to their editor and beta readers. There are tons of articles out there designed to persuade self-published authors to self-edit, but how exactly does one self-edit? To be honest, with my first novel (or two or three), I re-read my manuscript, took out grammatical and spelling mistakes, et voilà! Um, no. In the meantime, I’ve developed a system – somewhat. This system expands and alters based on the novel. Obviously, I won’t be looking for historical accuracies in a contemporary romance! Here’s how I go about driving myself crazy with editing.

Naturally, like a good little writer, I let the completed manuscript sit for a few days before I begin editing. Unfortunately, I can’t let it sit too long as I’ve inevitably promised the completed manuscript to my editor soon, and there’s no way…

#NaNoWriMo Week 1

Who’s started NaNo?

(Not me!)

I’m sitting out this go round. I’ll name several excuses that are just that excuses but I’m planning on being ready for Camp Nano in April and June.

Excuse Number One

I started a new part-time job over the summer that added twice as many day job work hours to my yearly schedule.

Excuse Number Two

My new part-time job turned into a full-time job about a month and a half in; almost doubling my daily hours.

Excuse Three

I’m in mid-edit of a book I wanted to publish in October but because of Excuse One and Two I missed my self-inflicted deadline.

I’m pushing myself to get this book knocked out and then I’ll push myself to finish writing my draft of the next one. Why I thought it was a good idea to write two series at once is a mystery.

But ultimately isn’t that the point of NaNo? To push ourselves to do what we didn’t think we could? So, maybe I’m doing more NaNo then I thought. I’m channeling it’s get it done spirit despite the odds.

I’d love to hear how writing is going for you. NaNo related or not.

Only A Few Days Left

Didi Oviatt

Every time I mark a book down for sale there’s a part of me that feels a little drug dealerish. Especially since the book I have on sale now is an adult book. Like I’m being naughty selling naughty things. Part of me wants to stand in a dark alley, like a nerdy 120 lb blonde girl hangin’ with the pimps, ready to pedal my raunchy product. I’d peek around the corner and watch for people in their early twenties to mid forties to stroll by, so I can creep half of my face around the edge of a building to get their attention. I’d say,

“Pssst… Hey you?”  Then I’d look over my shoulder to make sure no one is watching before I gave them a nod to my direction. “Comher’ I think I got somethin’ you might like.”

I can see it now. They’d be hesitant, because it’s…
